Architecture History & Theory Reflection
AHT was truly and wholly one of the most interesting modules in architecture. Even when I found myself stressed out of my mind while cramming for exams, I was still always excited to learn a new fact or read up on a new age in the extensive history of architecture.
Throughout the entire first semester, I can confidently say I was able to walk away from each assignment having learned something new. I may not have always been able to meet deadlines even with my best effort, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t take something away from each one. As far as history goes, learning about the varying intentions and designs, historical architectural patterns, languages, and contextual relationships between the buildings has helped largely in defining and deepening my understanding of architectural theory.
The showing of the development of each stage and period throughout history has helped me get a better grasp on the different architectural styles and influenced my design knowledge as well, allowing me greater care when selecting the design details for any new project.
Through a variety of assignments, projects, tutorial tasks, and tests, I think this module succeeded in not only teaching and educating me on the various architectural historical periods but also bringing history into the modern era, allowing us to commemorate and remember it through use of modern tools and techniques. The value of sketching and performing architectural studies on buildings has been greatly magnified to me, and that is a takeaway from this module that will stay useful.
