Design Communication
Reflection
Over the past 14 weeks, through my undergoing of this course and this module in particular, I learned many lessons about myself and the work that I’ve had to do.
With each assignment that went by, a new set of challenges was presented, and I was forced to learn to lower my standards for the sake of submitting on time. I learned more about myself through my many failures, than I did my few successes, and I’m hoping that with this newfound knowledge and view, I can carry it into my second semester, allowing me to do what I failed to do and succeed where I couldn’t.
After completing this module I can safely say that I’ve developed my understanding of Design to a level of competency that allows the completion of concepts like plan views and complex geometry, allowing me to draft more complicated perspective drawings and axonometric views.
This module gave me the ability to convey design intention through my orthographic drawings with correct, industry-standard architectural drawing detailing and planning.
One important aspect of this semester was that in keeping up with both assignments and tutorial work, managing time effectively was very important, and having consistent progression is more important than getting every detail perfect.
That being said, I gained so much knowledge on how to create and show my breadth of understanding of those details, through hours of practice I honed my calculation and measurement ability with scale drawings and orthographics, learning new ways to engage drawing issues with architectural standard equipment. Training myself in a variety of mediums, techniques, and tools, I advanced my knowledge and application of scaling, design complexity, and the various stages to the completion of a project.
The way I see it, mistakes are meant to be made. With any first semester of a first year, at the end of the day it is a learning experience, and, if I can say I’ve done anything this semester, it’s that I have learned.
